[edit] Description
This 130' schooner-barge sank while being towed by the Hiram A. Walker on April 27, 1897.
This wreck sits upright and in very good condition with the ship's wheel still intact. Her rudder lies at the bottom of the stern and three bilge pumps are mounted just forward of each cargo hold. Penetration of this wreck is easy due to the open cargo hatches, and it is possible enter just forward of the stern and exit just short of the bow.
This wreck is also frequently referred to as the Kingshorn or even the King's Horn.
[edit] Access
The site is accessible by boat, tied off to one of the two SOS moorings that lead to the stern and bow. Charters leave from Rockport Marina and Peck's Marina.
This site is only 900 feet from the Rockport Marina and, with sufficient gas, can be dived as a long swim or DPV ride from there. However, this can only be done in the off-season as boat traffic at the Marina is too heavy in the summer.
[edit] Hazards
Currents can be strong early or late in the year.
Diving this site as a winter ice dive should be considered an advanced dive, even by ice diving standards. There have been several fatalities resulting from ice dives to the Kinghorn in recent years.
